Artist artwork

A Central Highlands village unfolds during the blooming season of Pơ Lang flowers. The vibrant red blossoms ignite the warm golden background like sparks of memory, illuminating a peaceful living space. Traditional stilt houses rest quietly beneath the trees, reflecting a slow, nature-connected way of life.

A small stream in the foreground mirrors the colors of the land and sky, bridging reality and emotion. Executed in traditional Vietnamese lacquer with layered polishing and eggshell inlay, the surface radiates a subtle inner glow through its red and gold tones.

More than a landscape, this work captures a memory of the Central Highlands—where nature, people, and culture merge into a quiet yet vivid rhythm of life.

Artist information

INTRODUCTION
Trương Văn Linh (born in 1974, of Tày ethnicity, originally from Cao Bằng, Vietnam) is a visual artist currently living and working in Đắk Lắk. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Hue University of Arts in 1999 and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts in 2013.
With more than three decades of artistic practice, Trương Văn Linh works primarily in lacquer painting and graphic art, with lacquer forming the most distinctive thread in his creative journey. His paintings focus on material depth, surface structure, and the movement of light through layered lacquer. Traditional materials such as black lacquer, vermilion, gold leaf, and eggshell are explored through a contemporary visual language, creating spaces that are both contemplative and evocative.
His artistic inspiration emerges from nature, people, memory, and the cultural layers of the land in which he lives. Rather than describing these subjects literally, he distills and transforms them into fields of color, rhythm, tonal relationships, and symbolic visual structures.
Trương Văn Linh has participated in numerous exhibitions in Vietnam, including the Vietnam Fine Arts Exhibition, regional exhibitions, and other professional art events. He held the solo exhibition “The Enchantment of Golden Hues” in Hanoi in 2025 and “Vermilion Imprints Amid the Great Forest” in Đắk Lắk in 2026. His artistic practice has been recognized through a number of awards in fine arts and literature and arts.
He currently serves as Head of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dak Lak College of Culture and Arts and as Head of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association’s Dak Lak Chapter.
